Local moving costs in Connecticut average $125-$200 per hour for a two-person team, depending on the services included. Most moves within CT are charged hourly, and your final price depends on the move’s complexity, distance traveled, and any specialty services requested.

What Affects the Price of a Local Move?

Several key factors impact your local moving estimate. These include home size, travel distance, packing needs, and specialty services. At Collegian Movers, we provide transparent and customized quotes so there are no surprises on moving day.

Does Moving Distance Matter for Local Moves?

Yes. Local moves are typically under 100 miles and don’t cross state lines, but distance still matters. Longer travel times mean more fuel use and more hours on the clock, especially in traffic-heavy areas like Stamford or New Haven.

How Does Home Size Affect Moving Costs?

The larger your home, the longer your move will take. A studio move may take only 2–3 hours, while a 3-bedroom house might take 5–7 hours. More square footage = more items = more time = higher cost.

Do Packing Materials Add to the Price?

Yes. Boxes, tape, shrink wrap, and padding all factor into your final bill. If you need full-service packing, expect higher costs for both labor and materials. Collegian Movers can supply everything from wardrobe boxes to fragile-item protection.

Can Stairs or Long Walks from the Truck to the Home Increase the Cost?

Absolutely. Staircases, elevators, and long carry distances from the truck to your home can extend the time needed to load or unload, raising your hourly moving cost.

Are Specialty or Oversized Items More Expensive to Move?

Yes. Pianos, pool tables, safes, and large appliances often require extra equipment and manpower. These items may cost more to move due to the amount of labor, skill, and safety measures required.

Does Packing and Unpacking Impact the Final Estimate?

Definitely. Packing and unpacking services reduce your workload but increase your time on the job. Whether full-service or partial, these add-ons influence your total cost.

What If I Need Storage During My Local Move?

If you’re between homes or downsizing, short- and long-term storage options are available. Collegian Movers offers secure, well-maintained storage, billed by duration and unit size.

Is Insurance or Cargo Coverage Included?

Basic coverage is included in all moves, but you can add custom cargo insurance through a third-party vendor or your home insurance for peace of mind. These options provide greater financial protection for high-value items and must be discussed prior to moving.

Do Fragile Items Like Antiques Require Extra Handling?

Yes. Crating services for marble, artwork, or antiques ensure your valuables arrive intact. This adds a layer of protection—and a line item to your quote—but is worth it for irreplaceable pieces.

Will Furniture Disassembly or Reassembly Increase My Moving Cost?

If furniture needs to be taken apart and rebuilt, expect additional time charges. Collegian Movers handles beds, desks, and more with care, but the time adds up, especially for larger furniture sets.

Collegian moved my sister in law's furniture from one assisted living venue to another recently. They were cordial and efficient and I will use them again for any future moves that may come up as it truly was a hassle free and fairly priced experience.

We recently hired Collegian to help us move from our apartment to our first home. The movers were on time, professional, and will go the extra mile to help out where they can. They even came with me to our storage unit to help move a large table. Of note, we had several delicate pieces of furniture to move and all were delivered in perfect shape. The booking process was also very easy and no B.S and at the end it was a more than fair price for the work done. I would never even think of calling another moving company after this experience.
